My Culture
Tomás Keck, age 11 Co-authors: Jorge Caceres, Anna Horvath, and Ramiro Reyes My Dad and Grandpa came from Argentina to look for work because the economy was bad in Argentina. They arrived in Michigan and they both started painting houses for a living. My mom later came from Argentina to Michigan and she married my dad. My dad went to Eastern Michigan University and graduated. He became a principal for the Harley Franks Pre-school. Now he is the bilingual director of the Lansing school district. He is also my soccer coach and he’s one of the people that I look up to. I really enjoy playing soccer; it’s my favorite sport of all time. I am one of the best players on my team and I play for a different club now. My club is called the Michigan Chill. I go to Argentina every so often. I love going to the country where my family is from. I always have an amazing time over there. I also go to my grandma’s house to spend time with her; she also has a pool that my cousins and I play in almost every day. We have parties every so often and that’s when I have the most fun. We also go to my aunts’ house in Necochea, Argentina. It is right by the beach and every time we go to her house we go to the beach. I made new friends Quinn, Franco, Maxi, and Nacho who was already my friend. I always play soccer with my cousins and the kids in the neighborhood. There’s also a lot of barbecue for us to eat, which I really enjoy because I love my culture’s food. My role model in life is Lionel Messi. |
He is my role model because he’s a soccer player from Argentina,
and he is the best in the world. He has broken many records in soccer. I would love to meet him one day. |
“Stories do more than simply add color to the day. We use stories to guide and shape the way we experience our daily lives, to communicate with other people, and to develop relationships with them.” – Engel, 1995
